An Evening with Jackson Katz, Ph.D.

Engaging Men & Boys; an evening with Jackson Katz.

Ending gender-based violence is only possible when it includes us all.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR THIS FREE EVENT!

Together with Lambton College, the Male Ally Coalition, Rebound, St. Clair Child & Youth, The Coalition Against Human Trafficking and the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre is excited to host Engaging Men & Boys, An Evening with Jackson Katz.

Jackson Katz, Ph.D., is an educator, author, lecturer, and social theorist who is internationally renowned for his pioneering scholarship and activism on issues of gender, race and violence. He has long been a major figure and thought leader in the growing global movement of men working to promote gender equality and prevent gender violence.

He is co-founder of Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), one of the longest-running and most widely influential gender violence prevention programs in North America, and the first major program of its kind in the sports culture and the military. MVP introduced the “bystander” approach to the sexual assault and relationship abuse fields; Katz is a key architect of this now broadly popular strategy.

Since 1997 he has run MVP Strategies, a mixed-gender, multiracial education and training organization that provides sexual harassment and gender violence prevention/leadership training to institutions in the public and private sectors in U.S. and around the world.

He is the author of two critically acclaimed books, The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How all Men Can Help, and Man Enough? Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and the Politics of Presidential Masculinity.

He is creator, lead writer, and narrator of the award-winning Tough Guise videos. His gender violence prevention work is featured in the 2018 film The Bystander Moment: Transforming Rape Culture at its Roots. He is the creator of the 2020 film The Man Card: White Male Identity Politics from Nixon to Trump.

Katz lectures and trains widely in the U.S. and around the world on the imperative of men’s leadership in the promotion of gender equity and the prevention of gender violence, and the many intersections in this work among gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and religion.

His TEDx talk, Violence Against Women: It’s a Men’s Issue, is available with sub-titles in 27 languages and has a total of more than 5 million views.

Tickets available through eventbrite: An Evening with Jackson Katz: Engaging Men and Boys Tickets, Tue, 7 Feb 2023 at 6:30 PM | Eventbrite

Compassion Fatigue in online service delivery   Part 2

Please join the Sexual Assault Survivor's Centre and St. Clair Child & Youth in welcoming Lawrence Murphy to guide us through a morning of learning and growth on managing compassion fatigue and stress.

Lawrence Murphy is the founder of Worldwide Therapy Online, the world’s first online clinical practice, which he established in 1994. In collaboration with the National Board for Certified Counselors, he authored the first ethical code for online counselling. Through Therapy Online’s Research Institute, Lawrence and his colleagues publish regularly in the academic literature, including their seminal 1998 work When Writing Helps to Heal: Email as Therapy, which has been cited more than 350 times. Therapy Online delivers two levels of training in cybercounselling and licenses software to individuals, agencies and institutions keen to deliver services online. And, since the pandemic began, Mr. Murphy has delivered more than 90 half-day trainings to a total of more than 10,000 mental health professionals across Canada!

Lawrence received his MA in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 1995. He teaches in the Department of Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University and in the School of Continuing Studies at the University of Toronto.
